The Swarm - Screen Graphics &
Medical Visualisation

For the TV series The Swarm, I was responsible for designing and animating a series of scientific screen graphics used by the research team within the narrative. The primary requirement was to create medical visualisations that clearly illustrated bacteria interacting with human blood cells. These visuals needed to feel grounded in believable biology while remaining visually readable for television audiences.

Using Cinema 4D, I built and animated the cellular assets, developing organic surface behaviour through animated shaders and displacement to give the cells a natural, undulating membrane structure. This helped convey the microscopic environment and the physical interaction between bacteria and the host cell in a way that felt both dynamic and scientifically plausible. The sequences were then composited into interactive screen interfaces that appeared on laboratory displays used by the lead scientist character throughout the series.

In addition to the medical visualisations, the production required a number of other technical interfaces. I also created radar-style tracking systems used to monitor pods of whales, which were designed with a more militaristic visual language to reflect the urgency and strategic monitoring elements of the storyline.
